Emily B. Brown (she/her) — LMT, LPCC, Yoga Instructor, MA in Somatic Psychotherapy
“You are enough. I accept you as you are, in the present moment.”
I am a student of the human condition. My career has spanned fields that have allowed me to stay deeply curious about what makes each of us unique. I began studying Yoga as a physical and spiritual practice after taking an introductory course in college in 1998. After moving to Seattle, I started my massage therapy practice in 2005.
The integration of these skill sets led me to create Mindful Curves Wellness—a space to share my love for the human form and its infinite potential for healing and comfort. I bring my lived experience in a fat body, one shaped by both injury and adventure. I recognize that fat folks are often under-cared for due to anti-fat bias, and I aim to change that.
I’ve had the privilege of working with clients of all ages, abilities, sizes, and genders. I bring joy, playfulness, and curiosity into every interaction. Each session is integrative and tailored to the client’s needs in the present moment.
I’m an experienced bodyworker who integrates diverse techniques for functional change, offering wellness tips through breathwork, stretching, and self-myofascial release. My massage sessions blend muscle-specific work with deep relaxation, with special experience helping injured athletes. I completed my 200-hour Yoga teacher training in 2014 and later helped build an inclusive healing arts center in DC, teaching yoga for all bodies while serving activist clients.
I graduated from Naropa University in May 2024 with an MA in Somatic Body Psychotherapy and Social Justice Counseling, currently working toward postgraduate hours while offering massage therapy and developing my Mindful Curves somatic counseling practice. Outside work, I enjoy roller-skating, biking, making collages, and am known for my bright personality and spontaneous singing.
I identify as a fat, queer, neurodivergent, able-bodied, white, middle-aged, cisgender woman. My approach is shaped by lived experience and a commitment to embodied healing, equity, and liberation.
I was raised by a Southern Baptist mother and a Zen Buddhist father, encouraged to explore a spiritual path that now includes Christianity, Buddhism, Modern Paganism, and the 8-limbed path of Yoga.
Though I grew up with class and educational privilege, my adult life has often existed within the working poor, navigating helping professions that are undervalued and underpaid.
My ancestry traces to settler colonialists in Virginia and West Virginia. In response, I remain committed to decolonization in my personal and professional life.
I self-identify as neurodivergent, likely on the Autism spectrum, though I have chosen not to pursue formal diagnosis for economic and ethical reasons.
I bring lived experience with disordered eating (Binge Eating Disorder and Atypical Anorexia), which fuels my passion for compassionate, embodied care—especially for those in fat and/or otherwise marginalized bodies.
My work is rooted in social justice, anti-racism, and a belief in collective liberation.“Queer… as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it… finding a place to thrive.” – bell hooks
“As a person of size, finding someone who I trust to work on my body is a tricky thing. After meeting Emily, though, I was immediately set at ease. She is warm, caring, and really knows what she’s doing. Emily helped me make friends with what was going on in my body and has improved the quality of my life drastically.”
— Kimberly, Yoga Student & Massage Client
“My first yoga class with Emily was a revelation! She offers plenty of ‘bus stops’ along the way, understanding that it (each pose) is something you work toward. I finally found the ‘practice’ in ‘yoga practice,’ and I’ve been able to approach yoga with less judgment of my body. She’s also an amazing massage therapist—empathetic and caring in all she does.”
— Nicole, Yoga Student & Massage Client

Now Accepting Clients for Massage in Boulder!!
This work is tailor fit to the way you use your body. Go too hard at the gym? Just finish your first half-marathon? Spend all week hunched over your computer? Allow me to unwind the knots and pains that plague your days. This type of massage relies on the “Goldilocks Principle”: there is sensation, sometimes uncomfortable, but not so much it takes your breath away.
Stress is a modern epidemic. Society is set up to push us faster, harder and to achieve more. This work is the balm to that push. Slow, comforting, rhythmic massage to soothe your central nervous system. As a Reiki practitioner, I can include subtle energy work to aid in the flow of your personal energetic system.
Emily has been a student of Iyengar Yoga for over 20 years. This alignment based, Hatha practice is suitable for students of every level and ability, as it has a strong focus on body awareness, use of props and breath. She prides herself on the ability to adapt the practice of Yoga specifically for each student she encounters, building each pose on a “bus stop” principle. Even if we are all working on the same Asana, we might choose to stop and explore at different phases of the pose. Emily invites you to make each class your own. Expect her approach to be playful and authentic, come prepared to laugh!
Honoring the ancient practice of Yoga, which has deep roots in Southeast Asian culture, Emily will invite you to delve in to all eight limbs of Yoga. It is much richer than simply the physical practice! We explore Pranayama (breathing practices), the Yama and Niyama (ethical practices and personal observances), Pratyahara (sensory withdraw), Daharana and Dhyana (concentration and meditation) and hopefully (if even for a brief moment) Samadhi (bliss). Come with a curious and open mind.
These sessions are designed for your specific needs. They can be for new students wanting to orient themselves to the practice or to deepen your understanding of a particular pose, sequence, breathwork, or meditation practice. I love helping you build a practice focused on your specific challenges or injury recovery. We will spend a little time discussing your goals and then put together a plan to help you reach them.
